It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas!
And I hope your week so far is as lovely as mine!
Saturday I had a terrific book signing at Bookology Bookstore in downtown Cambridge, Ohio. The folks at Bookology always treat me so very well, and as my hometown bookstore, it is my hands-down favorite place to meet readers and sign my books.
The yummy cookies they always have don’t hurt!
I don’t know how many books we sold Saturday, but between people who came specifically to see me and all the lovely folks who were visiting downtown Cambridge for the holiday and happened into the bookstore and then bought one or more of my books, it was a pretty successful event.
And many of them bought other books as well — including me, lol.
My newest book, “Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer“, the next in my Willow Creek series, part of the Heart of the Amish series from Barbour Publishing, releases on January 1. But it’s out on Kindle all ready, and Barbour allowed us to do the early bird meet-and-greet at Bookology this weekend.
My author copies showed up Saturday as well, so watch for a video soon of me reading from my newest book.
This morning I thought I’d check on Amazon to see if “Plain Jane” was in the top 100 books in Amish fiction yet, and much to my wondering eyes, it appeared that the book is number three!!
You could have knocked me over with a sprig of holly!
Thanks to everyone who has purchased a copy in print or online; you’re the reason my book is doing so well this holiday season!
Watch for my next two books coming in March and May! My first Harlequin Love Inspired Amish romance, “Feuding with the Amish Farmer“, releases on March 31, and on May 1 it’s the next Willow Creek Heart of the Amish story, “Miriam’s Little Gentleman“!
I wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas. God bless you, every one!

See You in Berlin October 25!

Next weekend, on Saturday, October 25 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., I’ll be one of about 40 Christian authors in all genres participating in the 15th Annual Gospel Bookstore author event in Berlin! The Gospel Bookstore is offering 15% off all books by authors at the event purchased during the event, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. I hope you can make it. There will be so many great authors to meet.
The Gospel Bookstore Bookstore is located at 4900 Oak Street in Berlin, inside the German Village Center on the top level. The authors will be in the large atrium there, waiting to meet and greet you all!
If you attended the book signing after the Books, Bakes & Buggies event, it’s in the same place again.

Bookology Book Signing Saturday, June 8
This coming Saturday, I’ll be doing an author event/meet and greet at Bookology, located in downtown Cambridge, Ohio.
They’ll have my books available for purchase, and I can’t wait to meet everyone and sign some copies of “Mary’s Calico Hope”
I’m going to do a tiny painting of Hope, the kitty featured in this story, and someone will win it!
See you Saturday at Bookology in Cambridge! Located at 646 Wheeling Ave., next to Theo’s Restaurant – where you can go eat pie after you come say hi!

Winner of a Ginger Snap Original Painting!

I am a major procrastinator. I apologize to all the people who came to my book signing for “Ruth’s Ginger Snap Surprise” at Bookology a few weeks ago, and signed up to win this painting I did of Ginger Snap. All the people whose names I collected will eventually receive my newsletter; I say eventually, because I still don’t have a newsletter! One thing at a time, right?
We had a marvelous turnout that day, despite frigid temperatures and fresh snow in the morning. So many friends, old and new, braved the weather to come to Bookology in Cambridge to say hello. Many of you purchased a copy of my book, “Ruth’s Ginger Snap Surprise”. It was a wonderful day. You all made me feel so very, very special and blessed!
So now, without further delay, I’ll announce the winner (chosen at random by my daughter using the old-fashioned pick-a-number-any-number method) of this painting! Drum roll please! And the winner is — well, ARE, in this case — Les and Betty Hoffmann! I’ll email you and you can give me your mailing address so I can send you your painting. Thank you so much for coming out to support me in the cold!
As you may be aware, the next book in the Heart of the Amish series, “The Quilt Room Secret”, by Lisa Jones Baker, is on shelves now. And on or around April 1, the fourth book in the Heart of the Amish series from Barbour Publishing, Mindy Steele’s “Courting an Amish Bishop”, will be out. (Mindy also had book one, “The Flower Quilter”, which I absolutely loved. I want to make my own flower quilt now!)
After that, it’s only a little while until my next book, “Mary’s Calico Hope”, book five in the Barbour series, will release on May 15 in e-books and on June 1 in print! Here is something else you may not know. The story takes place in the same story world as Ruth’s story! In fact, if you read my first book, you met Mary Yoder. She works for Ruth’s love, Jonas, in his basket shop, and uses crutches to help her walk due to a childhood accident.
And here is more exciting news! Around this time next year, I’ll have a third story in that story world, which I’m calling my Willow Creek Amish world, even though it is part of Barbour’s Heart of the Amish. Are you confused? I hope not! I signed a contract a couple weeks ago to write “Lizzie’s Little Mouse”, about Elizabeth Miller, whom you met in Ruth’s story (she got the little gray kitten from Lydia Coblentz), and who you’ll see again in Mary’s story. I’m pretty excited! I’ll tell you more about Lizzie another day. For now, it’s Mary’s turn.
Soon I’ll start telling you all about Mary Yoder, and her wishes and her fears. But today is for celebration! Congratulations again, Les and Betty Hoffman!

Friday is THE Day!

My debut novel, Ruth’s Ginger Snap Surprise, launches this Friday, December 1!
What am I doing about it? Well, to be honest, Friday I’ll be going to work at the newspaper I manage. Hey, gotta keep the lights on, right?
But Saturday is another thing! On Saturday, I have an author event at Kerns Home & Garden Christian Bookstore Christmas Open House & Book Signing! My book will be available for sale, and I’ll be signing copies. (This seems very strange; I haven’t been asked for an autograph since I played Ursula the Sea Witch in The Little Mermaid!)
Kern’s is located at 2438 Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio. I’ll be there from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., so if you’re in the area, please stop by and say hello! There will be five other terrific Christian authors signing their books as well! We’d all love to meet you.

I’m not entirely sure what to expect this first time, but I’m feeling optimistic!
And for an extra measure of fun, I’ll be holding a drawing for a tiny painting of the sweet orange kitty from my book, Ginger Snap! All you have to do is sign my notebook and leave me your email. Eventually, I plan to launch a newsletter, and the folks who give me their emails will be the first to get that.
Just remember, I’m a writer, not a painter, Jim! (Extra points if you get the Star Trek reference!)
Here is the painting I’ll be giving away at Saturday’s event! I hope to see you Saturday at Kern’s in Akron! And if you can’t make it, please consider going to Amazon.com, or Books a Million.com, or Barnes & Noble.com, or Barbour.com (possibly the best deal!), and purchasing Ruth’s Ginger Snap Surprise. And if you love it, please leave me a review at Amazon.com, or Good Reads.com.
Thanks! Hope to meet you Saturday!
